RE: Surfing for Beginners
« Reply #1 on: September 27 2005 22:09:00 »Hi Emma, Have done quite a few trips to the Maldives now and have managed to surf all breaks in the Nth Male atoll in vary conditions from small an messy to big clean and nasty double overhead? Up to shoulder height you would be pretty safe @ Sultans, Jails & possibly lohies stay away from the rest.

I wouldnt surf Jails if i was you, especially if you are only a beginner. The best option would be Sultans or piddlies, you are able to sit on the shoulder and pick off the fat wide ones that no one wants. At Jailbreaks you can be swept up the reef and find yourself in the impact zone.

Trie to change your travel . January is a better month . Good luck .

RE: Surfing for Intermediate Dec/Jan
« Reply #7 on: December 19 2005 14:12:00 »I have chance to come to Maldives Dec 26th for a week, to surf. Is this a good time. I am competent on Uk Beach Breaks in anything up to head and half.
I would like a gentle introduction to reef break surfing and would like to ditch my thickj wet suit for a while in middle of winter.
Any thoughts? I know from reading earlier posts that January would be ideal for me. But will late Dec be just as good or will the swell wind and jelly fish be still wrong. I mean does it even break at Christmas?

I saw your answear on the Global Surf page.
I am about to go to Maldives. 3 questions?
Is there good to surf in the maldives in may?
Is it ok to surf there if you are a beginner or intermediate? And if do you have to go to a certain island?
Would appreciate answears.
