April 23 - in Male for a day - Can I surf?

« on: March 03 2009 06:03:00 »

I'm going to be in Male for 1 day on April 23 this year.

I'm not entirely sure when I will be arriving as I am travelling around the world on a boat and I guess the weather may make precise scheduling difficult.

However, I'd love to go surfing if possible. I see there are a couple of surf spots on Male. So, a few questions:

What's the best way to get around?
Would it be best to pre-arrange everything with a surf company?
Are booties essential?
What's the right board to bring, or would it be best to rent one for the day?
Which is the most reliable break in April?

That's about all for now! Many thanks,

Hi Mohd,

Thanks heaps for the reply. Actually, I've been talking to other people on Peace Boat, and we're wondering if we can get a little boat to take us all together to a place I can surf sweet waves and they can snorkel safely nearby. Do you know any spots, and companies that could provide a boat.

P.S. I ended up bringing a sleek 7ft funboard that can handle big and small waves. And I'll be out of practice so it won't be so difficult to get going straight away...
