Puerto Escondido« Reply #6 on: June 25 2006 11:06:00 »
I keep seeing posts here and elsewhere from beginner or intermediate surfers who want to surf Puerto Escondido. Unless you have been able to handle yourself VERY well in eight foot waves in your local surf, you will NOT have fun in Puerto. That is, unless you just want to watch. Puerto is for experts ONLY. Don't be deceived by the photos in the mags.. The pros make it look easy; it is not. A four foot wave there will pound you far worse than any 10 foot wave on the east or west coast. The swells are very thick and takeoffs are VERY steep in shallow water. JD

Or you could surf the point, just south of the HEAVY Playa Zicatela. Long left - sometimes crowded - beg to intermediate ok.

I surfed a fun *although heavy* beach break not too far outta Acapulco. Went with a local met on the beach. About 45 minute bus ride, 30 minute walk through the jungle to blacksand beach and A-frames. Or you could just stay at the Hotel thats on the beach :-) I think its called Princessa? I heard it was 5-star, too rich for me!
