Well i went there on vacation last febuary and some local friends showed me a spot. It was right after marker 31 (not for sure on the number but maybe ask a english speaking local) the waves were decent sizes. It was kinda choppy but there was really high winds at the time.

Yo Courteney, the best season here is from late March to late November. But if you are coming in late January, maybe you can get lucky and catch a good north swell (not very frequent). Keep in mind that the surf in the state of Sinaloa is almost only lefts. a few rigth points that can get good sometimes, but compared to the lefts are nothing!. Try playa Bruja, Punta Bonita (difficult access) and Jacarandas. Also the beachbreaks in playa ceuta can get you long right barrels, but its a close out most of the time so you have to be very lucky to score there.

my personal favorite winter spot is "los Picos" in La Isla de la Piedra also called Stone Island wich is a beach break with perfect peaks but again, without a decent swell, you are better off drinking some pacifico or corona beers in the palapas nearby. There are some other secret spot that always have waves, but like I said, those are secret and the locals would kill me if I spread the word. I know I would kill someone who does (just kidding). Hope you have a good stay and comeback in waves season...dont forget your gun.

If you go to mazatlan.com.mx, they have a surfing page there if you click on the "surfing" icon.  Loaded with info. Its mostly lefts in Sinaloa but I surfed an incredible right point in Nayarit, and it is shown on the webpage. Good luck.

Hi Spud,  I just happen to catch this website and was looking for a vacation spot this summer.  I noticed your name and thought you are the first person I have met that has the same name as my Dad.  I bet you dont run into anyone with that name.  My Dad was the cofounder of Wham-o you know hula hoops and stuff.  I just thought I'd write you an email.  If you care to respond that would be great.  And if you have info. on surfing the area......... Carol
