Puerto Vallarta does not have surf btut neighbouring sayulita and san blas does. In sayulita beware of the shady canadian lady who rents boards as she is a local con artists.

Me and a buddy of mine stayed at a small hotel complex at the north end of PV bay. 25 a night, had a TV and AC, what else you need when you're gonna surf all day? "La Launcha" was about a 20 minute walk south. Burros is just a short bus trip down, but you gotta hike through the jungle. Surf is MUCH better down south, have spent months and months in Michoacan

Hey Claire, in La Ticla there is a cheap hotel up in town off the square, a guy named Dominguez owns it. Plus they built alot of palapas on the beach there with electricity. You can also get hotel rooms in La Placita and in San Juan De Alima. But if you're going to Mich, just camp it on the beach, thats the best part of that area. Hope that helps :-)

1)El Brujo a resturant on naranjo. Authentic fish delicaciesThings americans would never think was mexican food. They have a menu in english and spanish. try the fish delicacies here. entrees from $9 up to $13, big portions. Free chips and salsa. Not airconditioned but has sufficient space inside.
2)Dianitas on fransisco I madero. open only for lunch. No printed menu, there is a menu written in chalk on a board. Changes every day and at different times of the day. Cheap good quality food. $4.80 for ,most entrees. I had
