« Reply #3 on: November 11 2005 09:11:00 »Boats are fun, but there is not really much of a reason to go surfing with the aid of a boat around Christmas time. There are usually only small to moderate south swells that mix with daily windswells that blow very strong from the north west of the Sea of Cortez. This makes for very consistent 3 to 4 foot surf every day, but no need whatsoever for a boat. Wait until the first big south swells start, in February or March.

In the winter, Mazatlan gets some amazing, leftover windswells every morning with super-glassy conditions that mix with the small south swells making for great, fun surf every day. Then when spring comes, the windswells get even better and begin to mix with powerful south swells, creating dozens of great beach breaks, reefs etc, which allows all the surfers to spread out over about a hundred miles of Coastline. Most people don't have a clue that the Sea of Cortez is actually a wave machine. At the
