Mexico in january

« on: August 31 2009 15:08:00 »

Hey guys,

I'm planning a trip to mexico, probably in the end of december/beginning of january.
I already heard that this is not the best season to travel to mex, but the charts say sth like "4ft, 13sec" what sounds very much surfable to me since I mostly surf in france in summertime where the average surfreport is sth like "2ft, 5sec". And onshore. 15 kts.
Well anyway, anybody been there in january and having tips on where to go and where to stay?
All the best from rainy Germany,

Paul

Hey Paul. Mainland Mexico does have great surf even in the wintertime. Jan-Feb probably the best there as the west coast of mex gets solid north-west groundswells. Lots of spots near Punta de Mita has good north exposures. La Ticla in Michoacan has an open swell window to NW swells. I was lucky to catch a solid 10 ft northern swell in ticla one year in March. It went off!! My secret spot not far from there shines on north swells. Im not sure if Puerto Escondido gets swell in the winter though. check out my blog for pics:

Goodluck!
