beach camping in mex« on: January 03 2010 08:01:00 »
I am going to go down to mex this summer and want to get away from the crowds as much as possible. Where is the best area to camp on the beach? Also, if anyone has done a mexico camping/surfing trip, please let me know what the pros/cons are. How are the bugs? Is it (relatively) safe down south? Baja vs. Mainland? Any info is helpful.

Haven't done Baja yet, but I can definitely rave about the Mainland. There's miles of empty uncrowded beaches to sling your hammock from Jalisco through to Chiapas. Without giving away too many secrets, we slept on the plastic tables of a lone beach front palapa, hours down a maze of deserted dirt roads hours from civilisation - right in front of a pealing right-hand pointbreak. (We slept on tables to get out of reach of the creepy crawlies and crabs by the way!)
