Good surf. Good accommodations. Cheap?

« on: December 18 2010 23:12:00 »

I want to send my brother on a surfing vacation in SoCal or Mexico.  Problem is, I don't have much dough - or any knowledge of what would be a great place to go.  I've got about $1500 in my savings account.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

I run a surf hostel/retreat in Troncones, Mexico. The best surf is in the summer, but picks up pretty well in april. We have some amazing 8-10ft face waves right now, but it is rare this time of year.

For a week our guests usually get out with beer/dinners/lodgings/rentals for about $300US a week.

Check it out at http://www.tronconespoint.com

Let me know if we can help you

SoCal can actually be done pretty cheap.  There's some great ideas on Wavecation.com.  Here is a listing for vintage VW wagons for only $100/day.  Then your brother's rent car AND hotel are taken care of.  Also they have a place listed in San Diego ON the beach for only $20 per night.  Here is a link with lots of options: http://www.wavecation.com/search/breaks/usa-mainland/us-west-coast/california

Mexico is good too, maybe a little more expensive to fly there, depending where you are.  The Troncones place menioned in the earlier post would be great too.

Just get him a 1-way ticket, because with all the murdering down in Mex right now you may not make it back.
