Surfing in April

Hey everyone, I have a week in April, 23 to 30 and am planning on going surfing in Mexico, I just don't really know where. Originally I was thinking Sayulita, but after some research I'm thinking of staying in Punta Mita at Hotel Las Palmas.

I've read some comments about further south being a little sketchier now and I'm hoping to find a place where I won't have to rent a car. I noticed that Punta Mita seems to work on a good amount of swell directions but how is the surf there in April? Anywhere else that would be better but still safe and relatively easy to get to?
I'm going with two others and we've all surfed up to a few feet overhead. Never really been in barrels. At least not successfully!

Looking to short board more than longboard but I get the feeling this time of year in that area is pretty mellow.

Thanks for any help

RE: Surfing in April

Check out Troncones Area (guerrero) El Rancho, La Saladita, Troncones Point, and some ripping beach breaks, plus a chilll relaxed atmosphere and very safe and small.

Let me know if I can give you any more info
