First surf trip (and alone) so wanna be careful...

« on: October 23 2006 14:10:00 »

Looks like I can get a flight from here in the UK for £150 to Marrakech for 10 days this December, I am very tempted as an intermediate with a minimal that's not got wet yet.
Looking to do this as cheap as possible, e.g. camping and buses/trains, any advice?? I'm quite adventurous and can look after myself but not really done this before...will there be plenty of other english speaking surfers about to help out/chat to?? Any obvious dangers or reasons not to go?
Any help gratefully received,
Thanks.

You'll be fine. I would bother taking your own board though, as it'll be a real hassle getting it from Marrakesh to Agadir. You can hire one in Tagazoute. You may be better going to a surf school, theres a good one called surf Moroc right in Tagazoute. The cheapest way is just to land in Tagazoute, haggle, look at a few room and haggle some more. You should pay something like a £5 a night. Then head to the bar in the evening and ask around. Without much trouble you'll find enough people who will offer you a lift or who will be willing to tell you where the decent breaks are. Also, have a look on wannasurf, that should give you a good idea. Good luck.
