Mozambique surf season? Surfing Mozambique

I'm in the US, and my sister is in the Peace Corp stationed near Tofu.  I want to go visit her in the next year or so, but would also like to make a surf trip out of the journey.  The Tofinho pics look pretty good, and she has said that it seems like the local surf-destination.  I was wondering what the typical surf season is there?  Is it similar to SA?  She is trying to claim December is a good month, but that just doesn't seem correct to me; i was thinking that June-Sept would likely be better.

Mozambique works similarly to north Queensland. February/March is cyclone season and the swell comes marching down the channel.
December can get good but not to much swell around in summer, best time of year would be April-September(winter). Although it is winter you can still surf in boardies - fabulous!
Plenty of uncrowded perfect righthanders everywhere, it truly is a natural footers paradise.

hey man !! how ya doing. iwas travelling in moz for 3months and managed to get some of the best clean waves of my life there!! the best time to go is between may to aug/sept. there should be plenty of swell during this time as you get the huge atlantic swells wrapping around and combining with the nice clean swells of the indian!! moz is a place were i found true untouched waves with no crowds and plenty of sea life, watch out for sharks.... moz has the greatest nos of different species of shark in its waters in the world !!!....... there's tigers and bulls......... you need to keep on watch!! if ya need any more info please get in touch and i'll try to help. happy travels mate and surf hard!!!

hi,  thinking of driving up to moz at the end of jan do you know what the cwind onditions are like then? Just starting out and not that bothered by huge swells.  Cheers

Youre just the bloke Im looking for, Im planning a surf trip with mates in either January or Feb depending on when they can get off work. I know this isnt the best time. Were gonna mission up the coast from Port Alfred (South Africa)

I was also wandering where abouts to go, heard Tofinho was really good. Where did you go mate? weve all been surfing since we were youngsters so looking for really gnarly righthand reef breaks.

sup scott from port alfred this is dp from port alfred. Moz gets really good in march through to september. Lots of good right handers not all that gnarly though i recomend tofo but keep a look out for sharks. cheers dp

i am going to mozambique to work there for half a year and i am so scared of the sharks. you said in your comment to watch out for them. but, do you think it helps in any way? they are coming from the deep to get you.
are there any spots without ore with less sharks in moz?

I have the chance to spend a few days at Ponta do Ouro in Feb 07, but being a Brit used to Cornish waters I have no idea of how to cope with sharks. Is this really a risk? Any ideas?

you post souds wonderfull!!! i am in moz and ill have plenty of time to go surfing! where are those spots you are talking about? i have been to tofinho and some other wellknown spots. but where else did you go?
