How can I hire a boat for day-trips to the surf?

« on: April 12 2005 04:04:00 »

I've searched around a bit on the web planning my trip to New Caledonia in June, and most of the information I can find is for live-in boat charters that are at least a week long.
With the benefits of experience in the Mentawis I am not keen to get stuck on a boat all the time. I would rather be able to pick my surfing days when the swell is good, and do other things with my non-surfing partner when it isn't.
How easy is it to charter a boat to get me out to the reefs?
Is there anywhere I should go or anyone I should talk to?

Hi Chris, did anyone reply to this. I also have a non surfing
partner and was hoping that I might be able to hire a boat for a day trip or two and not the whole time.
I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if you found out anything,
Cheers

Although having never surfed in New Caledonia did plan on doing a trip there a few years back not sure of the web address but see if you can find a company called Bouts-dBrousse based in Tneia think its about an hour from Noumea.or try emailing gilles at bdb@mls.nc hope this helps goodluck hear the waves are unbelievable when the wind stops blowing.

Hey guys,

I went to New Cal in Novembre and after a few nights out in Noumea I found my way to the Ouano headland, one hour north of Noumea. It's a pretty  remote  place, but there's a guy called Peewee who runs some speed boats to the surf. I don't know if I was  lucky, but I got some good surf on the only day I surfed! There actually is a small surf camp there, with bungalows, a snack, and a bar, I didn't stay there, just had a few well earned crisp beers. I didn't see any surfers, just some families really. Nothing like an indo camp.

i have also been to new cal.  we were there for 3 weeks and didnt really get any waves unfortunetly.  You must of been really lucky.  they do have boats going out to the reef from certain spots like oauno but they are really expensive.  fun trip but i much prefer indo or other more accessable surf spots.  beautiful place also.
