« on: November 04 2005 22:11:00 »

Hey,

I'm a surfer from Hawaii looking to study in new zealand... looking for a surf city with a great university... somewhere that I can surf and school is next to home! Its kinda strange having to travel just to hear the beach!! Kinda want to reside in an area, thats almost like home... where the surf, mountains, and school is close, and it has to be green!! Please help!!

Kiaora,
Well enjoy you stay and live and walk with respect.Indigenous peoples of Aotearoa are well awares of the opression and desecration done to their ancestors in Hawaii,by the hand of America,so with this in mind carry yourself respectfully.

No, u need to wake up dave! The moriori 'theory' was created and advocated by the Crown to justify or ease the pressure they were facing in regards to their treatment of the real indigenous peoples of NZ, the NZ Maori. That type of propaganda is the same method that Bush and co are/have used to create a sense of fear among Americans and the like, to justify the invasion of Iraq, Afghan, and Iran soon! Go to Uni or Polytech and take a Treaty of Waitangi paper. Or if u cant do that, imagine if the tables were turned, and NZ was discovered and settled by English people - then 400-500 years later boatloads of dark skins come over, take all the land, desacrate the white culture to a point where they are at the lowest end of all socio-economic scales.

Hey bro, honestly most unis are at least 30 to 45 min from the beaches! Auckland uni in the city 30 min to piha and all other spots! Waikato uni is 30 min from ragalan! (world class wave)
If you wana b real close to the beach then you would choose otago university. Mountains are real close too! The only problem is it gets dam freezing. people still surf in winter but cold as!!! However summer you get away with a 2m short arm steamer  and it absolutly pumps! hundreds of uncrowded beaches points!!!
So way it up warm vs cold vs travelling! I went to Auckland uni and surfed heaps in between classes, just had to travel that 30 min! Dont worry bout green! NZ is as green as it gets! Good luck.

yeah totally agree waijo,im a pakeha and i think its terrible how the native people were treated ,and still are in some cases, one thing i do disagree on though is the claim on seabed and foreshore,or rivers, beliefs being true,or spiritual or not its only giving rights to one race which is what is seperating every culture in the world, moari in power need to worry more about spending there millions of settlments on there own people, education and familys, you just got to look at the numbers of people in jails ,unemployed, like tainui buying into a hotel chain with there 104million they got,ive stayed at one of there hotels and i didnt see one cuzzy working there.
