Irish surfers headin o'er 2 NZ 4 the lion's tour. hoping 2 catch a few waves while we r there. Whats the surf like durin june/july? Is it cold? wetsuit, gloves?

yes, dead winter seaon with chilly offshores and big southswells........... you'll need 4/5-5/6 steamer with hood and gloves booties, you might want to even wear a 2mill rashy underneath! it's bloody cold down hear mateys!!!!!!! one ,more thing, dont let the natives eat you, thier really hungry.........................ahhhhh........................

If your in Auckland in June/July you'll need a very decent 3/2mm steamer or 4/3mm if your a pussy.

Usually at that time of the year the whole East Coast from East Cape to the tip of the North Island will get flat for atleast 4 weeks straight... Your best bet will be to spend time in Gisborne or Raglan/Taranaki at that time of year, or even spend time right up at kaitaia and wait for 'shipwreckbay' to start working...
