North South East or West

« on: January 11 2005 13:01:00 »

Whats up.... I'll be starting off in Christchurch in March (thats where my family is). Which way should I go from there? What the west coast spots are good (south island) and I know the north has bigger, more well known breaks but is it all around better than the south island?

Further north in NZ you go, smaller swell on average but the reverse applies with crowds. Westcoast is frequently too big and/or blown out to surf with any consistency Id say. Check out the NZ surfing guide books that are available, there are several out there.

Cheers
