Beginner Surf near Auckland

« on: February 22 2007 05:02:00 »

Hey I'm new to Auckland and I've surfed maybe 6-7 times before.  Can anyone tell me some good surf beaches near Auckland (within an hour or two) with good waves suitable for a beginner.  I'm hoping to surf a lot while living here to get better and more comfortable in bigger surf so any help is appreciated.

Thanks

If you want beginner surf, then Orewa can be good when its working, although its pretty crowded around there. I would recommend somewhere on the East Coast Bays. Long Bay, Rothesay Bay, Milford beach and reef, Takapuna beach and reef are all pretty good for beginners when they're working. There are heaps of small reefs all over the East Coast of Auckland, just have a look around
