Which beaches are best to surf in NZ?« on: August 11 2011 17:08:00 »
I am backpacking NZ early Nov. starting in auckland and want to spend at least a week somewhere surfing (Raglan?). I won't have any gear and am used to smaller waves 5-10. Any suggestions about where to start and will I need a suit or will a rash gaurd be good enough?

Wetsuit is definitely needed. 3/2 fullsuit recommended

Hi there... check out www.surf2surf.co.nz for all the latest reports. Raglan is good... stay at Soulscape (old converted train carriages). Check out Piha, go up North for Shippies, East coast of Auckland for Hot Water and Whangamata.. Gisborne.. but yes you will need a wetsuit still.
