Hi there - My local break is Raglan, but I am living right in Wellington city... lyall bay is to packed for what it's worth.. could anybody recommend me anywhere else? I surfed a point break at ocean break and loved it up there.. will try make my way to castle point when I can etc.. but is there any other bays that break around the Wellington city area.

Wellington City is pretty limited, rat island, airport, propellers, Eastbourne... The best is east around wairarapa, castlepoint is an obvious one as you mentioned but White rock, tora, and cape palliser are ones you may not know much about. Pick up the surf2surf book about spots around nz, at 40 bucks it's a steal, and my surf bible I carry with me when tripping around the country.

Hey everyone -
I am from the states and grew up surfing in Florida. I am moving to Wellington for work from June to October. It seems the S swell season is around that time I know the west coast can fire but it looks a little sheltered in wellington, more upcoast looks prime.
Can anyone provide insight into surfing that time of year? Anything directly in Wellington since I wont have a car normally unless I rent as work is provided one? Lyall Bay...seems inside the side but does it break that time of year. What is the water temps like that time of year? Can I get away with a 3/2 or is a 4mm necessary?
