feelings of resentment... nica local

« on: November 29 2005 14:11:00 »

Im a surfer from managua, my family fights night and day to keep nica a democracy against the sandinistas;  truly battling for years.Risking life and limb, literally. The only surfer related to president bolaños, been surfing for six years and i feel the foreign invasion and surf tour operators and realestates are shitting on my country. Sometimes when i see what is happening i wish I were a sandinista, revolutionary. Keeping the land nica and the waves nica... But its not good. Dont make me feel my family is fighting for somthing that is not worth fightin for. Making it safe and nice for you all to come surf here.

Chepe,
What are the troubles from the foreign invasion. I became interested in Central America while working with farmers to modernize farms and have seen a lot of property being developed beyond the means of local people. Some places have isolated from the foreigners and benefited from their taxes, developing clean water and medical clinics. Is it possible for the locals to benefit and not be driven out? I would love to visit your country but do not want to support an industry that damages the local life style.

Its not fair for me to over generalize.  And must apologize for how i came through in my first posting. Imagin discovering as new spot  away from all the crowded hastles down south here. Then you dicsover some one has bought the land you drive through to get here, so now you need a permit because its being developed for the foriegn market; then a gringo surf tour oporator finds out about it and starts bringing his business to that spot. its frustrating and violence inticing. what can we do?

i feel your pain but it is a catch 22.  money is pouring into nica, the surf is getting crowded.  i surfed alone growing up and now it is shoulder to shoulder in NE florida.  surf camps, shops, beginners, gulf transplants, college students.  that is why i live in the mountains cause surfers are generally are selfish pricks(me included) that like to turn the world into their surf ghetto.  the mountains beat your ass and humble you.  surfers need more humility.  fight for your cause!!  p.s.  i still drive to coloradoes, don't let people tell you that you can't, find a way.

Chepe,

Hey man I see what you are saying, but look at it this way. If it wasn't for the handful of guys coming down in the early 70's catching some waves, and continuing all the way up until today, do you really think you would be surfing? Probably not.

This is happening everywhere no matter where you live, so don't think its just Nicaragua that is suffering from this.

My house is near Huembes, so if you are ever up for carpooling to the beach to catch some waves throw me an email.

resentment

Dude your family made enough money during presidency to make up for your resentments. But the health and education systems still didn't improve. that's what you should be worried about. In case you haven't noticed most Nicaraguans 99% of Nicaraguans can't afford surfboards. That's the last thing on their mind. Get real man.

Read todays edition of "La Prensa" it talks about how Ortega's government and Nicaraguans resent developments like Gran Pacifica and others blocking access to beaches.

Headlines of " La Prensa" read "Legal Chaos roams the coasts", the goverment as well as Nicaraguan's are resenting the fact that access to their beaches are being blocked off!

It was actually april 2nd headline.
