Transportation Surfing Nicaragua

I plan to travel to nicaragua alone and dont really want to rent a car.  How can I get from managua to San Juan del sur? Will I need car to get to surf breaks?

From Managua to San Juan you can rely on local buses.  Cheap.  Easy.  Just take your board in a decent bag.  I carried a 7 foot around in a 10mm bag for 3 months in Costa, Panama and Nicaragua without a problem.

From San Juan, Mederas to the Nth was great if a little crowded.  Taxi or try to get a lift with a local.  Good breaks south I heard.

Solid info about the buses dan.. but once you get to San Juan, how far to breaks.  Is it easy  to rely on locals or others for rides? can you rent can u rent a car in san juan.  Thanks for any help you can give.  I plan to leave mid october for a few months.  Places to stay??

if you go to the surfshop in san juan del sur they'll hook you up with rides to the maderas break, there's also s kick ass little campsite right on the beach you can stay at for a couple bucks a night called Camping Maltildes.....check it out, peace

Does anyone know of a car rental company in either Nicaragua or Costa that will rent cars and allow you to go into both countries?  I'm going to Nica in November and want to show my girlfriend a little of Costa.  Any ideas?

Have bben to  nicaragua a couple of times now Transportation options to san juan del sur taxis=approx $50US from airport. Bus=$4.00..for the bus u have to get to this central market called roberto heballis(not sure of spelling) But my advise to you if u are carrying a surfboard is to try to catch the express bus to san juan at this market at approx 3:30 in the afternoon. it is similiar to a greyhound bus here u can storu ur boards underneath without much worry and it also dosent sop eveywhere along the way. it will be about 2;30 hours for the trip. u should be in san juan by 6-630.
