No matter when you go the wind may or may not be a problem. Typically the winter/spring has stronger offshore winds which can actually make the surf unrideable, but as you move into the rainy season the winds are more likely to be onshore. I think it's just a matter of luck. The further north you go the more moderate the winds. Beaches nearer Managua have less radical winds (and less crowds) than in the south.

Take a wetsuit if you are surfing in the south. Offshores make the water pretty chilly. Spring suit a must.
