I think everything will continue to progress on the same line. The bottom line is he was elected president...he is not a dictator, he has to work with the national assembly which is a majority of his opposition party.
Plus Tourism is good for Nicaragua and it's people, Ortega understands that and he even said he will work to continue to make Nicaragua attractive to tourist and investors.
He must understand that the 2nd largest source of income for his country after coffee is money sent home from the US by Nicaraguan relatives abroad....So it is in his best interest to keep good relations with the US.
I'd be more worried about the US policies then what Ortega will do.
Might be a good time to buy property in Nicaragua, if some people decide to bail.

you know, befor the elctions i was worried, during the process i was scared sh%tless. bummed about the results. but now i feel extremely positive. ortega has all the means to be the best president nicaragua has evr had. he has to play his cards right though. im sure the U.S will be wise as to what measures are taken. ortega has already met up with jimmy carter and the outcomes have been very positive. carter has also spoken with rice and her comments were also positive. im pretty relieved at this moment. take into acoutn that my grandpas brother is Enrique Bolaños, soon to be former president of nica. i have no worries at this moment.

I agree with Chepe and Surfguana. Ortega needs to step up and HONOR HIS WORD that he promised to the people. He has the great opportunity to really be a humanatarian and resurrect the poor people of Nicaragua as he promised and well as help Nicaragua prosper as never before. The people of Nic as well as the world are watching how he will prove himself and make good on his promises. His past reputation says otherwise. I am willing to give him a chance to prove himself His legacy can be of one that 1. he truly helped the people and country of Nicaragua, Prosper and Grow or 2. He lied to grab power for himself and his party and ignored the people of Nicaragua for his own selfish reasons. I trust he will choose #1.

Considering the "Dirty War" that various US administrations have sponsored and financed in Latin America, particurlarly in Nicuragua, I am astonished that any American is allowed in the country at all.
Viva Chevez!! Viva Ortego!! ... the Bolivar revoluton is gonna roll on and no paranoid whitey US admin. is gonna stop it.

"The natural resources of a country are the sovereign property of it's people they are not our's to steal or EXPLOIT in the name of our comfort, coorporations or our consumerism"
Stop blocking access to our beaches!

NOPE, comandante your taking the headlines out of context,
the news refers to a group called "Hijos del Mar", son of the ocean, not the governent.
all the group is saying is "hey the law says we should have access" yet we are being fenced out?

I don't know M.K. The way Chavez is shooting himself in the foot every day with nationalizing his oil fields and firing competant technical employees to process the oil, falling oil production, high inflation, food shortages and numerous other mistakes and negative ongoing conditions, it is a matter of time before his regime collapes. This is when it will really get interesting. The leftist countries who are now sucking off of Chavez...who and where are they going to turn to for support when the enivitable collapse happens?
