Weather - August - Las Salinas/Gigante« on: May 19 2009 18:05:00 »
Planning a quick get-away late August/first week of Sept. From a previous post, it seems the hard rain starts in Sept. Though I know weather is hard to predict, if my trip is going to be a monsoon, I'll skip it for now. Due to real world obligations (i.e. a job that pays the bills and I love) this will be the only time I can go until next spring. Thanks in advance.

The web page http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/city_guides/results.shtml?tt=TT001890
gives you weather information that coincides with my experience of over 11 years Nicaragua. The only time that the rain would have really spoiled your holiday was with the hurricane Mitch, about 11 years ago. Normally it never rains more than a couple of hours each day. But there will be not much sun.
For moving around you will need a 4x4. For 4WD car rental look at www.armadillo-nicaragua.com.

Thank you for you answers! Much appreciate it!
Bad news - not surfing per the Doc - knees won't take it
due to a recent surgery - but still plan to go. Not renting vehicle, just relying on public transport and my feet or 4 wheel drive taxis...Is this doable?

sorry to hear about the knees. it is possible to get around on public transport on paved roads, but most don't go to the beach that time of year, except San Juan del Sur, as the roads are dirt and mostly washed out at that time. I would suggest basing your journey out of San Juan del Sur. best of luck,

If you speak enough Spanish and know your way around, you could try the buses. I only know taxis that are sedans and their use is limited to paved roads, especially in the rainy season. The same applies to the buses.
