I am flyin to Nica next week on American Airlines.  they say that they charge 100$ per board..  does anyone know how this works, if they open ur bag and count the boards or what?

RE: board fees on flights

congratulations, you get to play the gate agent lottery.  it will depend on your gate agent and his/her mood.   the bottom line is that the policy reads "$100 per board" and yes, they open the bag if they are suspicious.   it is NOT per bag that is for sure.   flying with surfboards is always a hassle - be prepared to pony up.   if you plan a return trip you may want to consider leaving your boards down there with someone, its cheaper in the long run.   good luck.

We own a Storage Garage at Hacienda Iguana and offer long term surfboard storage for our returning guests.  We would also consider renting a storage space.
