board fees on flights

I am flyin to Nica next week on American Airlines.  they say that they charge 100$ per board..  does anyone know how this works, if they open ur bag and count the boards or what?

congratulations, you get to play the gate agent lottery.  it will depend on your gate agent and his/her mood.   the bottom line is that the policy reads "$100 per board" and yes, they open the bag if they are suspicious.   it is NOT per bag that is for sure.   flying with surfboards is always a hassle - be prepared to pony up.   if you plan a return trip you may want to consider leaving your boards down there with someone, its cheaper in the long run.   good luck.

We own a Storage Garage at Hacienda Iguana and offer long term surfboard storage for our returning guests.  We would also consider renting a storage space.
