Where to surf in Nicaragua in December

« on: April 18 2010 08:04:00 »

I'm going to Nicaragua in december for reasons other than surfing, but want to surf while I'm there. I know this is the off season and the surf is small. Are there any places that pick up NW swells during this time, or that otherwise have surf? Where should I go?

Thanks

Hola, the most consistant surf break is Playa Maderas which is close to San Juan del Sur. We get surf year round and even though it is smaller in December we still have surf. We can get some south and southwest swells in even that time of year and Maderas picks up all swell directions.

Hola,
November and december are really good months, waves are smaller than july and august but waves everyday and usually sunny.
We've got a lodge, Las Plumerias in the Popoyo zone, it's plenty of waves.
Any infos contact us.
PS: It's true that october is the worth month of the year so nobody's here, we've had perfect head high waves yesterday, 5 on the water!!

Hey Blake,
San Juan will give you a lot of options and companies offering trips etc, but it is a tourist and party hotspot and the town itself is in a port with little swell.  You will also find the waves are more crowded down there.  Where we are located further North we have a huge selection of beaches accesible by 4x4 and boat so will definitely find you some sweet waves and we'l be the only people there.  Check out www.surftoursnicaragua.com  We can come pick you up from Leon or Managua.  This is the smaller season but we've still been in surfing everyday, sometimes mellow and cruisy but always a fun wave to be had.  Hope that helps!
