Travelling with surfboards

« on: September 19 2010 04:09:00 »

Hi, My Husband and I want to spend a few weeks in Nicaragua surfing and travelling, we were thinking of bringing our own boards and travelling mostly by bus to keep the costs down. Is it ok to take surboards on the buses or not really?

It is, or at least was when I was last there, super easy to travel with a (short) board in Nicaragua. Check-out my account of surf travel in Nic at http://www.coastroadproject.com/thecoastroadproject/Nicaragua1.html plus heaps more photos and tips from adventures in Central America and beyond.
Hope this helps in some way, and you have a blast.
Good luck.

We were there in 2006, with 3 boards with us. Found it fairly easy. Public transportation is on "chicken" buses (Canadian Blue Bird school buses, in reality). They will just attach them to the roof as the bus itself gets pretty full. You can always cathc a ride with someone too.
