November surf spots & places to stay« on: September 30 2010 15:09:00 »
Hola, my boyfriend and I are going to Nicaragua for the first 2 weeks of November. I've been there once before, spent a month. Based out of San Juan Del Sur. Surfed at Maderas on a shuttle trip, and Colorado on a boat trip. Other than that we stayed at the Laguna de Apoyo with day trips to Granada, Masaya and Managua. This time I really want to get more surfing in, and see more of the beaches. We're flying into Managua. Thinking about heading north?? We're only there for 2 weeks so we want a location that is close to a lot of breaks that time of year. Any suggestions on good November swell locations and places to stay for a decent price. Stayed in hostels in San Juan and Laguna last time, so good hostels are sweet too. Aslo curious about transportation getting to these places. Know there is a car rental place in San Juan if we want to do our own day trips. Anything else? Thanks!

My buddy and I are going to be down in Nicaragua for the first time Oct 28-Nov 18. We've reserved a car and plan on heading the the Salinas/Colorado/Popoyo area first and staying at a place called Los Amigos Hostel (or Nica Surf House). We don't have a definite itinerary we just know that we're gonna surf the whole time, keeping it simple and on a budget. You're more than welcome to meet up with us at any point...

Went to Las Peñitas and Poneloya Beach, just 20 km from Leon, surfing and fishing little towns and made a blog with hotels in both beaches. http://poneloyabeach.blogspot.com

My boyfriend and I stayed at Mathildas just the next cove round from Playa Maderas which was a really quirky little place. It is pretty remote so once you are there you are stuck. She has very basic cooking facilities you can use and a fridge. There are 2 or 3 places to eat.
We were really disappointed with the surf. big and messy with lots of current but maybe we got unlucky. We are now working at a surfcamp in the Puerto Sandino area and there are way more breaks to choose from and a non touristy vibe. The roads however are pretty bad and the buses take funny routes so if you come up here, stay with a camp who will pick you up from a city and also drive you between surf spots.
