Ive only been to the rivas area, popoyo in particular i stayed a month in april, at popoyo loco a hostel on the beach for i think 5 dollars a night on the beach, 5 min. walk to popoyo, rented motorcycles and surfed the surrounding areas it was great, cheap, and offshore almost the whole time i was there. The only problem with staying in popoyo is its like a solid hour taxi ride to the beach from rivas down a shitty dirt road, but i mean it was a great area to stay.

Best, cheap way to Popoyo.. When in Managua go to the mercado Roberto Huembres bus station, take a taxi there, might be $2 or so. Then take one of the chicken busses or shuttles to Rivas. Have the bus/shuttle take you all the way to the bus station in Rivas. Rivas is a pretty shabby town and most people there will try to rip you off.
Get the chicken bus from Rivas to Las Salinas, $3 including surfboard. 4 busses leave daily, 2:30pm, 4:30pm and some in the morning. Magnific Rock is pretty cool, solid views of all the surf breaks, and pretty cheap if you're walking in, maybe $20/night. It's about 1.5 hours by chicken bus from Rivas, and then a 1.5km walk up to Magnific Rock. Look out for the white sign at the 2 hour bus ride mark. Surf is solid there!!

What dates are you guys going in march?..I am thinking about booking a ticket. It would be my first time surfing out of the US.
Does any one have an idea how much the fee is for shipping a surboard? and what airlines did you guys use? I am coming out of Maryland.

I'm going alone in Nicaragua (or Costa Rica/both) on Feb 23rd till March 15th. I'll be landing in Liberia (cheapest airport for me, I'm leaving from Montreal). Its quite a last minute trip (decided today to leave so I have 2 weeks to figure out whats the plan) Have you found any place to stay so far? Someone would recomand a nice spot to go in CR or Nicaragua in these dates? (I'm an "advance" beginner, surfed like 20-25 times in the last 3 years and I don't think I'll bring my board so if anyone have any tips on where I could get some good rentals let me know!)
