Surfing in Norway

« on: April 23 2007 13:04:00 »

Where is the best place to surf in Norway? Do the waves ever get to be 7 to 10 feet near Stavanger? Is Ålesund or Stavanger the better place to go? What suit should I wear in springtime?

Unstad in Lofoten is the best there is. Always wear the thickest suit you can find. Water is hardly ever over 13 degrees in spring, 14-18 in june (10 at Unstad), 16-19 in jul/aug (12 at Unstad)

I surfed Hoddevik. It is a great wave. You can fly to Sandane and drive there it's 10 minutes from Stadtlaner. It breaks really good and almost any wind is channeled into offshore. At the time I was there I could have worn a 4-3 but all they had to rent me was a 654. There's a little surf shop that has suits and board s for rent.

Guys, I am Portuguese and planning to fly up to visit a friend and try the some ball-freezing Norwegian surf.
Besides Hoddevik what other spots get good waves?
How consistent is it in August/September?
Thanks for any tips

Hoddevik is a closeout.  Around stavanger there are some nice waves, Lofoten looks magic, Saltstein is flat most of the year and crowded when it breaks. Well thats the hyped places.

HI i´m Portuguese , and im going to live in Sweden(ludvika) for a couple off years , unfortunately in Sweden there is no waves to surf  , so the nearest surf spots shod be  in Norway.
So im asking if you can  give me some info about  a local surf community to contact  with.
