mate, jan to feb is kinda flat in most places you do get the odd swell, azuero peninsula or the veraguas province is your best bet, as there is always something to surf, the likes of santa catalina has everything but is obviously busy. in the azuero it is a lot more rural off the beaten track, playa venao is cool laid back, but can also be frustrating at that time as the kids are on summer holiday, they dont go back till march.
i live in a place called playa guanico (tonosi) a turning before you reach cambutal, both these places always have something and cambutal is always a foot  bigger than guanico. if you have transport i advise checking everything out. if you dont cambutal could be dissapointing as you would need all the camping gear and at least a bike or something.

Any info on where to go during mid-march? I'll be down there for a couple of weeks and staying around the Coronado area. I know the spots in that are, but how consistent are they at this time of year? Am I better off going to Venao?

russ, I'll be coming from Oz to Panama for the month of april and will be looking to head for surf whilst there. I'm wondering if I could email you when there to tune you on some options. I'm looking at moving over as my lady has work there. I have to get my head around whether I can handle living in Panama City and away from the waves. Would appreciate any assistance, whilst there.
Cheers gav
