Whatever you do, don't go to the punta brava surfg lodge in Santa Catalina. Horrible place, will make the wife happy. Good waves though.

Spoken like a single man Ryan. That or a teenager. But I can respect that, hey I was there once too, but for those of us who have other commitments in life...
Panama's a good call mate. Just a few hours from Panama city in the Rio Mar area, there's a assortment of rippable right-hand points breaking across white sand beaches to keep you both happy.
Or there's Bocas del Toro on the Caribbean coast. Bit more full on as far as the breaks are concerned, but its a gorgeous region.
Check out words and pic from my Panama surf quest at www.coastroadproject.com
Best of luck to you and the good lady.

Good advice Coast. I've never been there but I do actually have the usual commitments myself. Nice beaches and accom are important but good surf and access is a higher priority. The fairest way for me is half the holidays priority is surf and half the wife. If you just want to make the wife happy get her to sort it. If you want the chance of memorable waves go for it. Mother nature waits for no one.
