Playa Venao is good, I would stay at Echo Venao, its cheaper and has a great vibe. If you go to Santa Catalina stick to the beach break in front of Oasis, do not paddle out to the main break unless you are a confident paddler/surfer. The paddle is kinda long and the bottom can get sketchy at low tide. On top of that, when the wave is working it is hollows out nicely and picks up some good size. On a med day (head/overhead) it's a fun wave...nice wall with easy takeoffs. There's a few more breaks in VENAO if you have a car to get you there. If you have the money you can charter a boat in Santa Catalina for a couple days and they'll take you out to some outer reef spots (just watch who you go with). I haven't surfed BOCAS, but its worth checking out to if you're into the party scene.
