That time of the year is mostly south swells, and when I was there in August for the last 2 years we had some very good waves at Chicama and Pacasmayo. Lobitos also picks up a good amount of South. Mancora in the north of Peru only seems to be really working well in N swells

Well your off a couple of months for that part of Peru from what I remember. Try going further south which picks up good south swell. If I was you in August just go to Punta Hermsosa area or no further than Talara area if you really want surf. Want ot go hang and trip have fun as well Mancora is a killer little town with great people. On the other hand about Montanita is a very cool place to hang I stayed there a couple of weeks but as far as surf it a winter spot I think. P.s. here are a couple other sites ot check out for good info: Wannasurf.com and Wetsand.com also there is a couple of books which are a must have if you surf and some of your ? will there? Have fun and travel smart

right about being off a few months.
surf season in the north is december to march... not many waves outside those months.
south of lima gets the best waves around there in winter, it's kinda cloudy though, but not very cold.
definitely check out punta hermosa, san bartolo, puerto viejo, punta rocas.... all good waves.
you can stay there and if by luck a swell hits the north you can hop on an overnight bus and be in the north to surf those perfect barrels for a few days, then head baack to punta hermosa, that's what i did...
this guy called abraham took pretty good care of us...
the camp was cool too, look for it on the web...bravo surf camp.
