Driving around Lima looking for surf« on: August 23 2005 14:08:00 »
Does anyone know if it's better to hire a guide to take me to the surf spots or am I better off renting a car and driving through the coast to look for the waves myself? I'll be staying in Mira Flores area - anyone know of any good surf shops or guides from that location? Or... Who's better pico alto surf camp or penascal surf camp? HELP!

Body I live in Canada, but I'm original from Peru, the best waves in Peru are at North, Cabo blanco, Organos, Mancora, Chicama, Pacasmayo, El faro, the towns are Trujillo, Tumbes, Piura, but is you are in Lima, cheaper is go to South, places, Punta hermosa ( señoritas, caballeros, La Isla, El paso, Punta Rocas, Pico Alto, good waves) San Bartolo (Peñascal, el huaico, Sanbartolito, Santa Rosa lots more), but if you staying around Lima ( Punta roquitas, La Panpilla, Makaja, Redondo) and lots more on the coast, well any questions write me, take care.

Thanks for your response, I'm only going to be in Lima for two and half days in Novemeber so I know I can't make it to Trujillo although I would love too so I need to stick close. Can you tell me if it's better to drive around myself looking for surf or is it better to hire a guide (I'm trying to get the best action with the least amount of search). Also, is it safe to stay in Miraflores? Gracias amigo!

They are both very good surf camps to stay at for a couple days. Penascal is probably not as crowded, but the Punta hermosa area kicks ass as well. The surf will be on fire Im sure. You dont need a guide every one surfs!! You will met some cool people in the water. good luck and travel light and smart.

looks like I've got the same questions as you. I didn't see anyone reply to your request... didn't help me either I guess.
So have you got any info regarding driving around Lima? I heard it's pretty intense... My plans were to rent a car there, spend a few days around Lima and drive up the coast.
Anyways, any words form you with this regard would be really appreciated. I'm going there in two weeks. so stoked!
