Siargao in December

« on: July 18 2012 21:07:00 »

Anyone know what the crowd factor is like for Siargao in December? I know it's not the most ideal time of year but I only have the first 3 weeks of December and I have to stay in south Asia. My main goal is to avoid crowds even if it means taking a chance on swells and wind. I don't care about saying that I surfed cloud 9, just interested in surfing some fun waves without 50 other people out. Are there breaks on the island where you can get away from the masses? Or is early-mid December full up with the usual holiday season crowds?

Hi Amber, i live on Siargao island. You'll be fine for crowds in December, especially if you are keen to take local boat rides to the other spots. Cloud9 can work in December, but it's usually affected by the wind and bigger swells. Typically between zero and ten people out at the other spots (depending on the spot and the time you go). There is one other popular spot that gets more crowded but you can easily avoid going there (gets crowded because it caters for beginners and more advanced surfers and is protected from the la nina (easterly) winds). Hope that helps, Steve

hi amber... if by chance you'll visit philippines for a surf. we have crowd-free surf spot here in GUBAT SORSOGON... only about 5 to 7 local surfers takes the waves here and im one of them. we have a beach break and a reef break. this spot is still less known and not yet on the map of philippines surfing industry that is why i can promise you a lesser crowd. but december means an easterly winds but if you choose to take some chances you can contact me and i can arrange your accommodation. you can reach me via facebook re: noli john mercader or via email: redacremus@yahoo.com. thanks!
