must you wear wetsuits

Hey guys!
ummm... just a curiosity I'm a beginner in surfing and I'm not sure if i should buy full length wetsuits....
Because I was wondering if board shorts and bikini are better to wear for a beginner. But I just want to hear from you guys instead. Thanks!

RE: must you wear wetsuits

Hello...

boardshorts and bikinis are enough if you surf in the Philippines.

Usually, wetsuits are used for colder waters.

However, if you're going to wear bikinis, be sure they're WIPE-OUT PROOF, or else you'll end up with popping "you-know". ;)

Better to wear rashguards...

RE: must you wear wetsuits

What you wear when you surf depends on what you are comfortable in and what the temperature is.  If you are surfing in cold water then you will want to wear a wetsuit.  If it is warm/hot and your skin isn't sensitive then a bikini and boardshorts will do, or for some just a bikini.  If you have sensitive skin and/or are watching out for the sun and the water is warm then you can wear a swimsuit, rashguard, and boardshorts.

Ultimately its up to you.
