Is July a good time to go to PI to surf? If so, where???« on: March 19 2009 14:03:00 »
I've been trying to find info about when and where is the best time to go the Philippines to surf and i'm surprised how little and vague information there is about this place. I am planning to go for all of July and wondering if and where the waves are gonna be happening. What I do know that there will be rain and the surf is fickle. What is the best route that I can plan to hopefully catch any of the fickle surf?

Sorry mate but July is not such a good time to head to cloud 9. I've been to the island a number of times over the years and from my experience July typicially
lacks swell...last year was no exception!. Cloud 9 depends on ground swell derived from typhoons which form hundreds of km's of the coast in the north Pacific. These thphoons become active later in the year, starting in sep and peaking in nov dec, with the best months being oct and nov. There is no such thing as localised swell on Siargao. Despite this July has favourable winds being mostly light offshores until late afternoons, so you can expect fun clean little waves which you will share with a pack of ravenous local groms that seldomly attend school.
