Luzon surfing, mid-April? surf rentals? transportation? etc.« on: March 24 2009 17:03:00 »
Hey I'm trying to find a decent spot for surfing in Luzon in mid-April. i'm a beginner and i'll be travelling w 2 ppl who've never surfed before. The closer and easier it is to get to from Manila, the better. so i need to know how to get there too. I'll probably be staying for about 3 days, so if you know any places to stay that would be good too. also i need to know about any places to rent boards. if someone could please tell me all of the above i would be eternally grateful! and estimated total cost? you're also welcome to join, the more the merrier!

hi angie, the closest spot from manila is zambales. more specifically crystal beach. they do have overnight accomodation and board rentals. shoot me an email so i can give you the rest of the details such as prices for the overnight stay and the board rentals and directions to get there. i have their brochure. just don't have it memorize by heart about the prizes. you can also check out their website at crystalbeachzambales.com

Thanks to all who've responded! I've been told Baler, Aurora is a really good place to go to for surfing in April. Is it worth the treacherous journey there or am I better off sticking with Zambales and La Union? We may now be driving from Cabanatuan. What do you think?

La union would be the most accessible place to surf.. i'm also a beginner and i've been there a couple of times.. its just a ride from any bus going to ilocos and drop off point is sebay, san juan la union.. then just cross the street and you're already at the beach..better stay at hacienda peter beacuse its really cheap but worth the stay. 500 a night for 2 people for a fan room is not bad plus unlimited coffee...

san juan, la union had pretty good waves during the holy week except for sunday which was pretty flat.. i heard baler was flat over holy week, but im not sure..
id say just go to san juan la union, its about 7-8 hours depending on traffic, 350-500 bus trips, 300-1k/night accomodations, 200/hour board rentals, or 400/hour with board and instructor..
we might go up this weekend.. but still waiting for the forecast.. =)
