I'm hoping to surf Baler in late September this year ('09).  Has anyone else been there for surf, and had good fortune?  I have a Phillipina friend I want to take, and also wondered about how safe it was.

Dude, go to Mahdox surf shop on Sabang beach...look for Okoy...these guys will hook you up with surf trips to the best spots equipment and even surf lessons.

you can also stay at Bay's Inn or Bahia.

if you're concerned about safety, the beach in baler is pretty long so stay near the lifeguard tower... :) the locals are the nicest ones in my opinion, haven't had any bad experience there, except when Bay's inn screwed up our reservations... but it was pretty busy-so book in advance! :)

You can go to aliya surf ship and look for boy2, the people there are very nice. I've been there once, really nice palce.. you can stay either at bay's inn or bahia de baler. bay's inn is cheaper but bahia is more comfortable depends on your preference.
