I a'm travelling in south east Asia for three months and now i will go past the Philippines as a stop in my trip. I want to learn surfing during my three month journey so my question is: Where in the Philippines is the best place to learn surfing as a beginner? I have heard Cloud 9 i the best surfing spot but is that place suited for complete beginners really?

From my trips around the Philippines, and my last trip which as you know covered the whole area from north to south, I personally would recommend the Visayas region – the climate is good, not too touristy, and beautiful scenery. For the uninitiated, the Visayas are central in the Philippines, and include many islands including Cebu. I think if I wanted to settle there, I would select somewhere in the Visayas. Just my opinion.

Agree with the above re: Cloud 9. Other great places for beginners are San Juan, La Union and Baler, Aurora.
