do u need a car to surf from lisbon« on: January 09 2006 06:01:00 »
hey. i am going to be based in lisbon for 6 months and was wondering if u need a car to reach all the good surf spots or if it is accessable by public transport? or will that just take way to long and be difficult with conditions? thanks

Yes, being mobile is always key to catching the best waves. Btw, I was just there in Dec. and know from experience that you would prefer to have a vehicle.
Enjoy, there are many waves to be ridden there!!

thanks for the response. wel i am planning to live in lisbon for a while so i was thinking more of everyday missions to the beach. not so much long trips although i will definately do a few of those. so yeah i suppose a car is best. i was also wondering where the best beach is to live near that is also cheap to live as i am travelling on south african rands which do not go very far. and if i do need to but a car there how much does a cheap surf mobile cost or is it better to rent one? thanks

I am based on the Lisbon coast and during the winter, the coast of estoril (you chat, carcavelos) you can surfar and do not precheat of car, in the summers, have to look for waves in more remote beaches, where if you are going to need it.
Send me an e-mail if you need any help and I will be happy to reply. Take care

a car will certainly mean you spend more time in the water as you can access spots on the west coast (guincho, p grande, macas) as well as Costa etc on the south side of the River. However second hand cars aren't particularly cheap in Portugal - you'd be much better off buying one in England and driving down there if possible. Best place to live without a car is the Estoril/Cascais area although you'll have to look around for a cheap place. Still you'll be right on top of some good breaks although they get crowded. Email me for more info! Toby.

i noticed they are old too but have the same questions? My friend and I are traveling in July and Lisbon is a possible destination? What can we expect to pay for a car and accomodations Per/week? Per/month?
