Sagres in the winter« on: August 12 2006 17:08:00 »
Hey everyone! I'm planning on going on a surf camp in january and right now I'm trying to do some "research" on different spots. So I was wondering how the conditions are in Sagres during january for an unexperienced surfer (have only been surfing for 5 days before). Thankful for help!

The thing that is great about Sagres(surfwise) is that you are in walking distance to 2 special beaches. One that sits on the south coast and one on the west coast. They use these 2 beaches to gauge where the surf is at. If there are waves to be had on the south coast, that's where they will search. If the south coast is very flat, there is always the west coast. In general the west facing beaches in Portugal receive a lot of energy especially during the winter. In the winter, it is good to be somewhere where you have options. Have fun!

I also wanted to mention...
Any surf camp in Portugal is going to try to hook you up with waves where you will have a good time. You might also want to look into surfcamps close to Lisbon or Peniche. There you will also find beaches that face different directions.
Have a great time!

Heya, Iam just back from a weeks surfing and really want to go again before the year is out - could you tell me what the weather would be like in Portugal in October/November - probably cold but would it be miserable cold? If your going somewhere for a week you dont want to be freezing for the week ;)

I was in Sagres last january... if you're in sagres itself and don't want to drive Tonel is the best spot.... and it's only a five minute walk from town... there's a number waves to chose from too... good luck
