how can i best combine surfing with sightseeing?« on: August 27 2006 07:08:00 »
I'll be travelling to portugal in mid-september; we have 7 days, of which i've decided to spend 4 in lisbon+some other town, sightseeing, and 3 surfing in a surf camp in Peniche. However, i'm not sure whether surf camp is a good idea, since we'd also like to see as much of Portugal as possible while there.
Sooo.. anybody knows of coastal towns/villages we might go to instead of the surf camp? that have good surfing spots and at the same time public transport connections etc? (we won't rent a car) Any suggestions at all from ppl who live/has been there?

7 days isn't much. To maximize time I would stick with Lisbon and the Lisbon coast. There is Cascais, Sintra and Ericeira. Sintra is absolutely beautiful. Castles, gorgeous National Forest, very close to Lisbon and also close to surf. And then go to Peniche. while in Peniche make sure to check out the Berlengas, beautiful islands 11km away by boat. Nazare, São Pedro de Muel and Figueira da Foz would be other cool coastal cities with surf. They are father away but accessible by transit. Enjoy!!!

Hey there, if you come to the LIsbon coast you have both options, great sightseeing and amazing surfing so......come and see us down here! Public transport is cool and really reliable. Let me know if you need any more help, take care, Karin
