Beginner surfers in Portugal!!

« on: March 11 2007 13:03:00 »

Hey all,
Myself and a few mates (total surfing beginners) decided we want to try surfing in Portugal in a couple of months. Id love some info. on where the best spots for us would be, taking into account nice beaches, a decent nightlife ( if possible), cheap accommodation, ease of travel and CHEAP living.

Hey Jon
Well the LIsbon coast has all you ask for. Great waves for all levels, good weather, plenty of bars and nightlife and good accommodation. Let me know if you need more details or help and I will be happy to reply. Take care

you're looking at a trade-off mate - if you stay in Albufeira you're looking at a lot of driving to get to waves each day. The best nightlife on the lisbon coast is in the city itself but again you'll have to drive to get out to the best spots like guincho or praia grande. The breaks nearer the city around estoril and cascais tend to break more often in the winter months. If I were you I'd stay in Lisbon or Lagos in the Algarve. Hope that helps!

Hi Jon,
Portuguese North Coast is great... close to Oporto there are a lot of surfspots for all levels of surfing. There is actually a train leaving Oporto (every hour) that passes close by many of the surfpots around the area. Night life in Oporto is awesome and cheap. Let me know if you need more info.

Peace out!
