where exactly are you arriving and how do you plan to get around? Lisbon and Porto are both great cities to go out, and have waves nearby. The Algarve in September might feel like arriving at a party after everyone else has gone home but that could be a good thing! Coimbra is well worth a visit too and the students will be back in September. Waves nearby in Figueira da Foz and flat day fun in the Bucaco Forest, a magical place. In the north you have the national park of Geres which is beautiful too, and Afife will be pumping in September! Hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply Toby, I am going to be planning the trip over the next few weeks...so still totally unsure at this stage. (Hire car vs. going with the flow?!) Info like yours will help make the trip planning easier though...cheers

If you are looking for a nice beach and a good party, come to peniche/baleal. In the weekend we have good parties at brunos bar and in some smaller local cafes. If you are interesting in a nice accommodation, check www.surfcastle.pt
