surf near lisbon

« on: July 12 2007 03:07:00 »

We are travelling to Portugal in september, and would like some advice...We're flying to Lisbon, so it would be nice to stay near the city, but at the same time near some good surf spots. We don't have a car, so it's most important to live near the beaches, and maybe take the train into the city....any advice on where to stay? Have gotten some good recomendations about far is that from Lisbon city?

Hi there, Lisbon is a great spot as you have many beaches to choose from and the transport service is really good, both trains and buses.
Ericeira is a little bit far if you want to head to the city a few times as it will take you around 1 hour to get there.
There are great beaches like Praia das Macas, Grande, Guincho, but it all depends on the swell etc for size, waves.....let me know if you need help. Will be happy to reply :)

Ericeira is a really nice town with world class waves but without a car you might as well not bother as you need to drive to get to the best spots (Ribeira D'Ilhas, Coxos, etc.) Unless you stay at the campsite just over the road from Pedra Branca that is, but then you'll be walking into town. So this time take KS's advice and go to Lisbon. If the forecast looks epic you can always get the bus up to Ericeira anyway. Hospedaria Bernado was my favoured crash pad there. Hope that helps,

I am staying in Lisbon for about a week and would like some recommendations about good surfing spots near Lisbon (since I wont have a car) and places to rent a board.

Any help would be very appreciated! :)

Peniche / Baleal can be a good option for everyone that wants to surf near Lisboa... its about 90 Kms North and its considered the most consistent Surf zone in Portugal... its also a very good place to learn Surfing !

There are buses leaving from Lisboa (Sete Rios and Campo Grande stations). The ride takes about 90 minutes and costs around 10 bucks.

If you need any more information, please feel free to contact me (I live in Baleal, and I know the best spots).

Cheers !

Does anyone know a place where I can buy second hand boards in Lisbon?

And what is the closest spot to Lisbon to surf? I will stay in Lisbon for a week (next week) and I want to be able to surf every day for a couple of hours but be able to be in Lisbon in a reasonable short amount of time.

Any help, ideas, very much appreciated! :-)
