Hi everyone, my name's Andy and I'm travelling on my own to Portugal this summer looking for medium sized waves (at a push i would class myself as intermediate!) and of course the apres surf is equally as important! Anyone in a similar situation feel free to drop me a line. laters..

Hi Andy,

did you already find good places to surf and to stay as an intermediate surfer. Me and my friend will be going on saturday and travel around and we are lets say beginners and a bit intermediate. Any tip for us?

I would say check out the beaches around Baleal. They run from Peniche town (cerro) to Baleal North. Its about half an hour walk end to end along the beach and all the surf schools are located there. So far its seems to be the best at high tide. Its where ive been going. Today the wind was strong onshore over Baleal and closed it out, so i walked to the supertubos spot south of Peniche. The waves were sick and mostly too difficult for me, also the best place was dominated by locals all day! There are some spots I would say are suitable for beginners tho - you just have to look along the beach and check them out. Theres a good swell the next few days over the whole area so have a good trip!

check out the Peniche hostel. its listed under hostelworld.com thats where im staying. If theres no vacancies you can always turn up and ask anyway. Fatima and shannon run the place and they know everyone in Peniche, they will be able to direct you to someone. On the streets in Peniche town centre there are always Portugese women with signs saying rooms for rent so you should find somewhere no prob. You can also check out Penichekitecente.com. They guy thar runs that also has rooms to rent. good luck
