Hi, i'm pedro from portugal:
There are great waves near faro but they need a swell from south to work, in the summer it´s not usual to happen, but Faro it´s not very far from other beachs of the west coast, like praia do amado (amado beach) or others easy to find.

Is there any chance at all for waves around the algarve this time of year. I will spend 3 weeks in July/August in Loule and would bring a gun and a 7-foot malibu. I would have a car and could travel about. Grateful for any tips.

i read your mail regarding Sagres. i'm planning a 3-week trip with my family (girlfriend, 4-year old & 10-months old sons) to Sagres or Lagos in June. I'm looking for a nice kids friendly hotel or resort where they can spent their holiday while i'll be surfing. Can you advise or help? Any surf school nearby?
tx in advance!

Hey I might study in Faro this year! Did you get any responses for surf spots in the area?

Download GoogleEarth, it's a neat program that lets you see anywhere on the planet from space! You can zoom in pretty close, and Pedro is right, it looks like there are some great waves near Faro but they need to come from the south. Unfortunately not all places on the planet have such great detail when you zoom in.
You can tell good waves when you see a triangle of white foam, it's breaking both ways!
