best area for beginner

« on: April 06 2008 14:04:00 »

Hi,
Can anyone give me some advice on the best area to travel to. I'm a relative beginner and my wife boogieboards a bit.
We also want somewhere thats not too windy as she likes to sunbathe, so some nice beach breaks would be good.
Cheers

The region in Portugal (and I would dare to say in Europe) where you have the best chance to get good waves for your level is definitely in Peniche. It's a peninsula, an almost-island, with several point-breaks and bays and a multitude of different spots in a 15min drive.
Almost all kinds of wind versus swell directions originate a surfing wave somewhere.
Also there's a large number of surfcamps, from the luxury to the most basic. Just do a search or ask for specific advice on a surfcamp in Peniche.
If on the other hand your looking more for night life and warm water, go to Sagres/Algarve.
